O'Neil She was in her high school times during the auditions, volunteered for Canadian Idol's 3rd season within the early months of 2005. The singer made it through to the top 100 rounds when judges applauded her voice. O'Neil was given high praise by judges, but she suffered significant losses in the top 10 weeks as well as the Top 9 of the Finals, when she fell to the bottom 3 and bottom 2 respectively. It was a shock to the judges and they advised that people vote for Melissa as the contestant with the most impressive ability to sing. O'Neil was always delivering top performances since then, never finished lower than the top three. O'Neil, Rex Goudie and Werner delivered two spectacular performance in September 2005. Werner reportedly said that the headlines would state that O'Neil was able to defeat Goudie and was the third Canadian Idol. She was the first female, and youngest winner in the time of the show. O'Neil was contacted immediately from Canadian PM Paul Martin, congratulating on her triumph on Canadian Idol.
